The village has a temperate climate with warm summers and cold winters. Żyrzyn was first mentioned in the 14th century and was granted town rights in 1417. It was a center of trade and crafts in the 16th and 17th centuries, but its importance declined after the Partitions of Poland in the 18th century. The village was rebuilt after World War II and is now a popular tourist destination.
