Zvenigovo is a town in the Mari El Republic of Russia, located on the right bank of the Volga River, 85 km southwest of Yoshkar-Ola. The town has a humid continental climate with warm, humid summers and cold, snowy winters. It was founded in 1555 as a fortress to protect the Russian state from the Kazan Khanate. Zvenigovo has a rich historical and cultural heritage, including the Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, built in 1712, and the Museum of Local Lore, which houses a collection of artifacts from the town's past.
