Zheleznodorozhnyy, formerly Gerdauen, is a town in Kaliningrad Oblast, Russia, situated at the intersection of the Pregolya and Lava rivers. The town has a humid continental climate with warm, humid summers and cold, snowy winters. Zheleznodorozhnyy was founded in 1337 by the Teutonic Knights as a fortress called Gerdauen. It became part of the Russian Empire in 1757 and was renamed Zheleznodorozhnyy in 1946.
