Zemlyansk is a town in Voronezh Oblast, Russia, located 120 kilometers southeast of Voronezh at the confluence of the Maiden and Verevka Rivers. The climate is humid continental with warm summers and cold winters. Zemlyansk was founded in 1688 as a fortress to protect the southern border of the Russian Empire. It played an important role in the Russo-Turkish Wars and was a major center of trade and commerce in the 18th and 19th centuries. Today, Zemlyansk is a small town with a population of around 10,000 people. It is known for its historical architecture, including the Church of the Nativity of Christ (1702) and the Church of the Intercession (1802).
