The town experiences a humid subtropical climate with hot, humid summers and cool, dry winters. Yorkshire's history dates back to the 18th century when it was known as "Poplar Springs." It was a popular stagecoach stop along the stagecoach route from Alexandria to Winchester. The town's heritage is evident in its historic buildings, including the Yorkshire Presbyterian Church, which was built in 1827.
