Yepifan’, Tula, Russia

Yepifan' is a town in Tula Oblast, Russia, located on the Don River at the confluence of the Yepifan'ka River, 140 kilometers south of Tula. The town has a humid continental climate with cold, snowy winters and warm, humid summers. The town was founded in 1618 as a fortress to protect the southern border of the Russian state from the Crimean Tatars. It played an important role in the defense of the southern border of Russia for centuries and was a major center of trade and commerce. The town is home to a number of historical and cultural monuments, including the Yepifan' Kremlin, the Church of the Nativity of the Theotokos, and the Yepifan' Museum of Local Lore.
