It is located in the south-eastern part of the province, at the confluence of the Limia and Arnoia rivers. The climate is temperate, with mild winters and warm summers. The average annual temperature is 13.5 °C. The municipality has a rich history, dating back to the Roman era. The town was founded by the Romans in the 1st century AD, and was known as Limia. In the Middle Ages, it was part of the Kingdom of Galicia. The town was destroyed by the Moors in the 10th century, but was rebuilt by the Christians in the 11th century. Xinzo de Limia has a rich heritage, including the Romanesque church of Santa María, the Gothic church of San Pedro, and the Renaissance town hall.
