Xincheng, formerly known as Taozhou, is a county-level city in Gansu Province, China. It is located in the central part of the province, approximately 100 kilometers (62 miles) south of the provincial capital of Lanzhou. The city has a humid continental climate, with hot summers and cold winters. Xincheng has a long history, dating back to the Western Han dynasty (206 BC - 24 AD). It was an important trading center on the Silk Road and was once the capital of the Taozhou Uighur Kingdom. Today, Xincheng is a major agricultural center and is also known for its cultural heritage, including its ancient temples and mosques.
