It is located on the east bank of the Susquehanna River, across from the city of Columbia. The borough was founded in 1730 by John Wright, a Quaker who purchased land from the Susquehannock Indians. Wrightsville played a significant role in the American Revolutionary War, as it was the site of a major British encampment in 1777. The borough is also home to the Wrightsville Historic District, which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
