Wright-Patterson AFB is located in Dayton, Ohio, at the confluence of the Great Miami and Mad Rivers. The base has a humid continental climate, with hot, humid summers and cold, snowy winters. The base was established in 1917 as Wilbur Wright Field and was renamed Wright-Patterson AFB in 1948. It is home to the Air Force Research Laboratory, the National Air and Space Intelligence Center, and the National Museum of the United States Air Force.
