It is situated at the intersection of State Highway 34 and Farm to Market Road 1563, approximately 20 miles east of Greenville and 30 miles west of Sulphur Springs. The city has a population of 1,412 as of the 2010 census. The average temperature in Wolfe City is 63 degrees Fahrenheit, with an average annual rainfall of 42 inches. The city was founded in 1873 by a group of settlers from Tennessee. It was originally named Wolfe's Crossing, after one of the settlers, James Wolfe. The name was later changed to Wolfe City in 1876. The city's economy is based on agriculture, manufacturing, and tourism. Wolfe City is home to the Wolfe City Rodeo, which is held annually in July. The city is also home to the Wolfe City Historical Museum, which houses a collection of artifacts from the city's past.
