Wittenberg, Wisconsin is a village in Shawano County with a population of 1,234. It is located in the northeastern part of the state, about 30 miles southwest of Green Bay. The village was founded in 1853 by German immigrants and was named after the town of Wittenberg in Germany. The village is home to Wittenberg University, a private Lutheran university. The village has a humid continental climate with warm, humid summers and cold, snowy winters.
