Winder, Georgia, is a city located in the northeastern part of the state, approximately 45 miles northeast of Atlanta. The city has a humid subtropical climate with hot, humid summers and mild winters. Winder was founded in 1854 as a railroad town and was named after John H. Winder, a civil engineer who worked on the construction of the Western & Atlantic Railroad. The city has a rich history and heritage, and is home to several historic sites, including the Winder Historic District, which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
