White Oak, Texas is a small city located in Gregg County, in the eastern part of the state. The city is situated at the intersection of Farm to Market Road 226 and Farm to Market Road 2914, approximately 10 miles northeast of Longview and 15 miles southwest of Marshall. The city has a humid subtropical climate, with hot, humid summers and mild winters. The city was founded in 1849 by a group of settlers from Tennessee and was originally known as "Oak Hill". The city was renamed to "White Oak" in 1850, after the large white oak tree that stood in the center of the town square. The city has a rich history and heritage, and is home to a number of historic buildings and sites, including the White Oak Methodist Church, which was built in 1852 and is the oldest building in the city.
