West Jefferson is a town in Ashe County, North Carolina, United States. It is located in the Blue Ridge Mountains, approximately 30 miles (48 km) northwest of Boone. The town has a population of 1,299 as of the 2010 census. The climate is humid subtropical, with hot, humid summers and cool, dry winters. The town was founded in 1849 and was named after Thomas Jefferson. The town's heritage is primarily Scots-Irish and English.
