West Ferriday was founded in 1849 by Colonel Edward Fenner, who named it after his hometown of Ferriday, New York. The town's early economy was based on agriculture, but it later developed a thriving timber industry. Today, West Ferriday is a small, rural community with a population of just over 1,000 people. The town's main industries are agriculture, forestry, and tourism. West Ferriday is also home to a number of historical sites, including the Old Ferriday House and the West Ferriday Presbyterian Church.
