Weldon is a town in Halifax County, North Carolina, United States. It is located at 36.4271° N, 77.5955° W, in the Roanoke River valley, and has a population of 1,346. The town was founded in 1779 by General William Caswell and named for his friend, Colonel Anthony Weldon. Weldon was an important port city during the 19th century, and was a major center for the cotton trade. The town was also a major battleground during the Civil War, and was the site of the Battle of Weldon Railroad in 1864. Today, Weldon is a small town with a rich history and heritage. The town is home to several historic sites, including the Weldon Historic District, which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
