It is located in the Allgäu region, approximately 10 kilometers southwest of Lindau and 20 kilometers northeast of Bregenz, Austria. The municipality was first mentioned in 810 AD and has a rich history that includes being part of the Holy Roman Empire, the Austrian Empire, and the Kingdom of Bavaria.
