Washington, Illinois, known locally as Vashington, is a village located in Tazewell County, approximately 14 miles southwest of Peoria. The village experiences a humid continental climate with hot, humid summers and cold, snowy winters. Washington was founded in 1835 by James M. Cunningham and named after George Washington. The village has a rich heritage, with many historic buildings and landmarks, including the Cunningham-Osborn House, built in 1837, and the Washington Historical Society Museum, which showcases the town's history and culture.
