The city has a humid subtropical climate with hot summers and mild winters, with an average annual temperature of 65.5°F (18.6°C). Waco's history dates back to the 16th century when Spanish explorers first encountered the Waco tribe, and the city played a significant role in the Texas Revolution and the American Civil War.
