Volzhskiy, Samara, Russia, formerly known as Bol'shaya Tsarevshchina, is a city in southwestern Russia, located on the left bank of the Volga River, opposite the city of Samara. The city has a humid continental climate with warm, humid summers and cold, snowy winters. Volzhskiy was founded in 1951 as a workers' settlement for the construction of the Kuibyshev Hydroelectric Station. It was granted city status in 1960 and has since grown into a major industrial center, with a focus on petrochemicals, chemicals, and metallurgy. The city is also home to a number of cultural institutions, including the Volzhskiy Drama Theater, the Volzhskiy Museum of Local Lore, and the Volzhskiy Art Gallery.
