Villavieja, also known as Villa Vieja, is a municipality in the Huila Department of Colombia, located in the Colombian Massif mountain range. It has a warm and humid climate, with an average temperature of 25°C (77°F). Villavieja was founded in 1550 by Spanish conquistadors, and it played a significant role in the Colombian Independence War. The municipality is known for its archaeological sites, including the Tatacoa Desert, which is a geological formation with red and gray rocks. Villavieja is also home to several historical monuments, such as the Church of San Sebastián and the Casa de la Cultura.
