Verona is a town in Augusta County, Virginia, United States, with a population of 4,135. It is located in the Shenandoah Valley, approximately 120 miles southwest of Washington, D.C. Verona experiences a humid subtropical climate with hot, humid summers and cold, dry winters. The town was founded in 1740 and was originally known as "Fort Pleasant." It was renamed "Verona" in 1832 after the Italian city of the same name. Verona is home to a number of historic sites, including the Woodrow Wilson Birthplace and Museum, the Belle Grove Plantation, and the Staunton-Parkersburg Turnpike. The town also has a strong arts and culture scene, with a number of theaters, galleries, and museums.
