It is known for its two lakes, Upper and Lower Twin Lakes, which are popular for fishing, boating, and camping. The area has a Mediterranean climate with warm, dry summers and cool, wet winters. Twin Lakes was first settled by Native Americans, and later by European settlers in the 19th century. The community is home to several historic buildings, including the Twin Lakes Schoolhouse, which was built in 1888.
