Tuscaloosa, also known as Tuskalusa, is a city located in west-central Alabama, United States, situated on the Black Warrior River approximately 50 miles (80 km) southwest of Birmingham. The city has a humid subtropical climate with hot, humid summers and mild winters. Tuscaloosa has a rich history and heritage, having been founded in 1819 and serving as the capital of Alabama from 1826 to 1846. It is home to the University of Alabama, one of the largest and most prestigious universities in the Southeastern United States.
