Turka, also known as Turko, is a town in the L'vivs'ka oblast of Ukraine. It is located in the Carpathian Mountains, at an elevation of 520 meters above sea level. The town has a population of about 7,000 people. The climate is humid continental, with warm summers and cold winters. Turka was first mentioned in written sources in 1431. It was granted Magdeburg rights in 1568. The town was part of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth until 1772, when it was annexed by the Austrian Empire. After World War I, Turka became part of Poland. It was annexed by the Soviet Union in 1939. Turka was occupied by Nazi Germany from 1941 to 1944. After World War II, Turka became part of the Ukrainian Soviet Socialist Republic. It has been part of independent Ukraine since 1991. Turka is home to a number of historical and cultural sites, including the Turka Castle, the Church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, and the Turka Museum of Local Lore.
