Troitsk is a town in the Moscow Oblast, Russia, located 40 km southwest of Moscow, with a population of 49,513 (2021). The climate is humid continental, with cold winters and warm summers. The town was founded in 1646 as a fort on the border with the Grand Duchy of Lithuania. It was granted town status in 1784 and became a major industrial center in the 19th century. Troitsk is home to several research institutes and universities, including the Lebedev Physical Institute and the Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology.
