It is located at 41.8006500 latitude and -73.1212200 longitude, in the eastern part of the state, about 20 miles west of Hartford. The city has a humid continental climate, with hot, humid summers and cold, snowy winters. Torrington was founded in 1737 as a farming community, and it became a center of industry in the 19th century, with the establishment of several factories. The city's heritage is reflected in its many historic buildings, including the Torrington Historical Society Museum and the Warner Theatre.
