The commune is located 10 km (6.2 mi) southeast of Caen and 25 km (16 mi) northwest of Falaise. The commune has a population of 1,950 (2017) and an area of 10.4 km2 (4.0 sq mi). The climate is oceanic with mild winters and warm summers. The commune is home to the Château de Thury-Harcourt, a medieval castle that was built in the 11th century.
