Thornwood is a hamlet in the town of Mount Pleasant, Westchester County, New York, United States. It is located north of the city of White Plains and south of the town of Pleasantville. The area has a humid continental climate, with hot, humid summers and cold, snowy winters. Thornwood was originally settled by the Dutch in the 17th century and was known as "Thorn's Woods" after an early settler named Thorn. The hamlet was incorporated in 1897 and has since grown into a thriving community with a population of over 4,000 people.
