Thomaston is a town in Nassau County, New York, United States. It is located on the north shore of Long Island, approximately 30 miles (48 km) east of Manhattan. The town has a population of approximately 2,500 residents. The weather in Thomaston is humid subtropical, with hot, humid summers and cold, snowy winters. The town was founded in 1653 by English settlers. It was originally known as "Oyster Bay" but was renamed in 1844 after Samuel Thomas, a local landowner.
