Thiells is a hamlet in the town of Haverstraw, Rockland County, New York, United States. It is located on the west bank of the Hudson River, about 30 miles (48 km) north of New York City. The climate is humid subtropical, with hot, humid summers and cold, snowy winters. Thiells was originally settled by the Dutch in the 17th century and was known as Tiel's, after the Dutch word for "tile". The area was later settled by English and Irish immigrants. Today, Thiells is a diverse community with a population of over 5,000 people.
