Teshig, Bulgan, Mongolia

Teshig is a sum (district) of Bulgan Province in northern Mongolia. It is located in the Selenge River basin, at an altitude of 1,040 meters (3,410 feet). The climate is humid continental, with cold winters and warm summers. The average annual temperature is -2.5 °C (27.5 °F), and the average annual precipitation is 350 millimeters (14 inches). The area has been inhabited since the Bronze Age, and was part of the Xiongnu Empire in the 3rd century BC. In the 13th century, it became part of the Mongol Empire, and was later ruled by the Qing Dynasty of China. In 1911, Mongolia declared independence, and Teshig became part of the new nation.
