Tecpán Guatemala, also known as Tecpán, is a municipality in the Chimaltenango department of Guatemala. It is located in the central highlands of the country, at an altitude of 2,320 meters above sea level. The climate is temperate, with an average temperature of 18 degrees Celsius. Tecpán was founded in 1524 by Spanish conquistadors, and it served as the capital of Guatemala from 1524 to 1541. The city is home to a number of historical landmarks, including the ruins of the former Spanish capital, and the Church of San Francisco, which was built in the 16th century. Tecpán is also known for its traditional crafts, including pottery, weaving, and woodworking.
