Tahlequah is a city in eastern Oklahoma, United States, located at the foothills of the Ozark Mountains. The city is the county seat of Cherokee County and is the capital of the Cherokee Nation. Tahlequah has a humid subtropical climate with hot, humid summers and mild, dry winters. The city was founded in 1839 as the capital of the Cherokee Nation and was named after the Cherokee word for "two mountains." Tahlequah is home to several historical and cultural attractions, including the Cherokee National Capitol, the Cherokee National Museum, and the Sequoyah National Cemetery.
