It was part of the Visigothic Kingdom of Toulouse in the 5th century and was later ruled by the Arabs. In the 13th century, it became part of the Kingdom of France. The town's heritage includes the 12th-century Romanesque church of Saint-Julien and the 16th-century Château de Sussargues.
