The village is situated at the junction of New Hampshire Route 108 and New Hampshire Route 33, and is approximately 10 miles (16 km) southwest of Portsmouth, New Hampshire. The village has a population of approximately 2,500 people and is known for its historic buildings and its proximity to the University of New Hampshire. The village was founded in 1840 and was originally known as "Stratham Corner". The village was renamed "Stratham Station" in 1853 when the railroad was built through the village. The village is home to several historic buildings, including the Stratham Station Depot, which was built in 1853 and is now a museum. The village is also home to the Stratham Historical Society, which was founded in 1976 and is dedicated to preserving the history of the village.
