Steelville is a city in Crawford County, Missouri, United States. It is located at 37.9681°N 91.35487°W, in the Ozark Mountains. The city has a population of 1,640 as of the 2010 census. Steelville was founded in 1839 by John Steel, a blacksmith from Kentucky. The city was originally known as Steel's Mill, but the name was later changed to Steelville. The city was a major center of iron production in the 19th century. The city's historic downtown district is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
