Steeleville is a village in Randolph County, Illinois, United States, with a population of 2,181. Located in the southwest part of the state, it is about 40 miles (64 km) southeast of St. Louis. The village has a humid subtropical climate with hot, humid summers and cool, dry winters. Steeleville was founded in 1839 by German immigrants and was originally known as Germantown. It was renamed in 1869 after John Steele, a local businessman and politician. The village is home to the Steeleville Historic District, which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
