It is known for its ancient Shiva temple, the Srisailam Mallikarjuna Swami Temple, which is one of the 12 Jyotirlingas. The town has a tropical savanna climate, with hot summers and mild winters. Srīsailam has a rich history and heritage, dating back to the 2nd century BCE, when it was ruled by the Satavahana dynasty.
