Spankeren is a village in the municipality of Rheden in the province of Gelderland, Netherlands. It is located on the south side of the Veluwe, about 10 km north of Arnhem. The village has a population of about 2,000 people. The climate is temperate, with average temperatures ranging from 3°C in January to 18°C in July. The history of Spankeren dates back to the Middle Ages. The village was first mentioned in 1188. In the 14th century, Spankeren was granted city rights. The village was destroyed by fire in 1585, but was rebuilt soon after. Spankeren has a rich heritage, including a number of historic buildings, such as the Reformed Church, which was built in the 15th century.
