Southfield, Michigan, is a city located in Oakland County, approximately 15 miles northwest of Detroit. With a population of over 70,000, it is the seventh-largest city in Michigan. The city has a humid continental climate with warm, humid summers and cold, snowy winters. Southfield was originally settled in the early 1800s by farmers from New England and New York. It was incorporated as a city in 1958 and has since grown into a major economic and cultural center in the Detroit metropolitan area.
