South Windham is a census-designated place (CDP) in Windham County, Connecticut, United States. The CDP is located in the town of Windham and has a population of 1,691 as of the 2010 census. South Windham is situated on the Willimantic River and is home to several historic sites, including the Nathan Hale Homestead and the Windham Textile and History Museum. The climate in South Windham is humid continental, with hot, humid summers and cold, snowy winters. The area was first settled by Europeans in the 17th century and was originally known as Windham Landing. The town was renamed South Windham in 1829.
