Sosnogorsk, also known as Izhma, is a town in the Komi Republic, Russia, located on the banks of the Izhma River, a tributary of the Pechora River. The town has a humid continental climate with long, cold winters and short, warm summers. Sosnogorsk was founded in 1939 as a settlement for workers of the nearby Izhma timber industry, and it has since become a major center for the timber and gas industries.
