Sorrento, Louisiana is a small town located in Ascension Parish, about 20 miles east of Baton Rouge. The town has a humid subtropical climate with hot, humid summers and mild winters. Sorrento was founded in the early 1800s by French settlers and was originally known as "Frenchtown." The town's name was changed to Sorrento in 1884 after the Italian city of the same name. Sorrento has a rich cultural heritage that includes both French and Italian influences. The town is home to several historic buildings, including the Sorrento Plantation House, which was built in the 1830s.
