Solís de Mataojo, also known as Solís or Solís Grande, is a town in Lavalleja Department, Uruguay, located at the junction of Routes 60 and 12, 94 kilometers from Minas and 104 kilometers from Montevideo. The town has a humid subtropical climate, with hot, humid summers and mild, dry winters. Solís de Mataojo was founded in 1876 by Manuel Solís, who built a store and inn at the junction of the two roads. The town grew rapidly in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, as a result of the expansion of the agricultural industry in the region. Today, Solís de Mataojo is a popular tourist destination, known for its beautiful scenery, its historic buildings, and its proximity to the Solís River.
