Sokhumi, also known as Akva, is the capital of Abkhazia, a disputed region on the eastern coast of the Black Sea. It is located at 43.0069700 latitude and 40.9893000 longitude, in the timezone Asia/Tbilisi. The city has a subtropical climate, with mild winters and warm, humid summers. Sokhumi has a rich history and heritage, having been founded in the 6th century BC as a Greek colony. It was later ruled by the Romans, Byzantines, Arabs, and Ottomans, before becoming part of the Russian Empire in the 19th century. After the collapse of the Soviet Union, Sokhumi became the capital of the self-declared Republic of Abkhazia, which is not recognized by most countries.
