Social Circle is a city in Walton County, Georgia, United States, located about 45 miles east of Atlanta. The city has a population of around 4,300 people and is known for its historic downtown area, which features a variety of shops and restaurants. Social Circle was founded in 1837 and was originally known as Friendship. The city was renamed Social Circle in 1853 after a local Methodist minister named John Wesley Dobbs suggested the name. Dobbs believed that the city would become a "social circle" for the surrounding communities. The city has a humid subtropical climate with hot, humid summers and mild winters.
