Slippery Rock is a borough in Butler County, Pennsylvania, United States. It is located at 41°06′39″N 80°05′65″W and has a population of 2,994 as of the 2010 census. The borough is home to Slippery Rock University of Pennsylvania. The climate is humid continental, with hot summers and cold winters. The average temperature in July is 73 °F (23 °C), and the average temperature in January is 29 °F (-2 °C). The borough was founded in 1803 by John and William Graham, who built a gristmill on Slippery Rock Creek. The town was originally known as Grahamsville, but the name was changed to Slippery Rock in 1832. The borough is home to a number of historic buildings, including the Old Stone Church, which was built in 1836.
