The village has a population of 1,420 people and is known for its Amish community. The village was founded in 1816 by Henry Shreve and was named after him. The village is home to the Shreve Historical Society and Museum, which has exhibits on the history of the village and the surrounding area. The village is also home to the Shreve Mennonite Church, which is one of the oldest Mennonite churches in the United States.
